This is one of the'Architectural Monographs' series from Academy Editions/St. Martin's Press, and is one of their best. The work of this architectural firm is beautifully described and illustrated in this handsome volume. Each of the three principals in this firm has written an essay to introduce their work and the photographs are so great, one wants to book a flight to the nearest on-site product of these fine architects. But failing that, this book is a great choice. And a great, affordable gift.

NEW BOOK and DJ with Mylar protection. // The author of this book, and Aalto's biographer, tells us that Aalto "always lived on two levels: he was a realist and a tacticision who solved practical problems with astonishing inventiveness and unfailing diplomacy." Aalto was also, as his expansive work bears witness, an amazing architect, constructing buildings of surprising beauty and almost unparalleled utility. This book reveals much of his more mature work, and will make that special gift for which you've been searching.

Barragan is Mexico's pride and joy. His architecture dots not only his native land, but has expanded much beyond. This book is a very agreeable introduction to his work, or a good expansion if that is one's need. Softbound and loaded with illustrations, with his bold choice of colors, especially in his design of homes and churches. Great gift.

5 Architecture: Sites of Reversible Destiny Architectural Experiments After Auschwitz-Hiroshima Gins; Gins, Madeline; Arakawa
Gordonsville, Virginia, U.S.A. St Martins Pr 1994 1854902792 / 9781854902795 Paper Back Very Good No Dj as Issued Quatro
These two NY-based artists Arakawa and Gins have collaborated on Art-Architecture for 30-plus years, and this book is unique in that it is a predominantly visual exploration into architecture and its "centrality to the projecta of human self-knowledge and self-formation, carrying philosophical argument into the realm of construction." Heady stuff, this, but it is illuminated by their imaginative creations in the vast number of illustrations. Impressive as a gift, or "a thing to enjoy forever."

Bernoudy was there only three years, but those years -- and his continuing relationship with Wright -- made him a life-long disciple. And this book reveals how he "brought FLW to St. Louis." It is a big hefty volume loaded with the gorgeous photography of Sam Fentress and the insightful words of Osmund Overby. This volume will be a lovely addition to your library. Or, if you are extremely generous, it would make a most memorable gift.
