Eastman Johnson Painting America: Painting America Carbone, Teresa A.; Hills, Patricia NY Rizzoli 1999 0847822141 / 9780847822140 Hardcover New New NEW BOOK and DJ, both Mint and with new Mylar. // No finer copy exists.Johnson was a very prominent realist painter during the Civil War era. He and Winslow Homer had a sort of running competition for the public's favor. And even though Homer might have won, Johnson is still a painter to contend with. Note especially the very good reproduction of his most famous painting, "A Ride for Liberty -- The Fugitive Slaves" on page 137, and as well -- for your delight -- take a gander at "The Hatch Family" on page 178. For American History, as well as American Art, this book is highly recommended. There is the tiniest indentation at top of front endpaper, hardly noticeable. Price:
