Pretty good praise for this First Mate Bullen who is perhaps better known for his whaling classic, "The Cruise of the Cachelot." This reviewer -- many years ago -- was in the pretty town of Dunedin, New Zealand, when he first learned of Frank Bullen. The author was most highly recommended by a book-dealer in that town; he sold me a copy of Cachelot, which I have never forgotten. This book ranks a very close second. It is in excellent condition and is protected with an acetate covering. A wonderful gift.

The author was First Mate, and he writes movingly and excitingly of this supreme adventure (pity the whale!). The illustrations are by Mead Schaeffer and are exquisite.
