This lovely volume is covered with silver-gray cloth with impressed title-letters. It is subtitled, 'Early Buddhist Art from Japan,' and is enclosed in a custom-made box. DJ is protected with Mylar covering. The text is by Bunsaku Kurata and traces the development of the vast Horyu-ji complex. This Temple has probably the oldest wooden structures in Japan, and is a holy place. This reviewer has been blest by visiting it several times. This book is an elegant depiction of that wonderful place. It would make a perfect gift for any lover of Japan and Japanese art.
